It is one of our most touching and fulfilling opportunities to host DHF’S Annual Client Families Summer Kickoff Party. Among the many people that this party brings together are mothers and their children, along with DHF staff and board members.

For many of our clients who don’t have family, connections, or any form of a built-in support system, coming together for familiar, family-oriented holidays and celebrations makes a big difference when dealing with the stress and uncertainly that facing trauma, crisis and challenging situations bring.
Oftentimes, the journey to the United States as newcomers is isolating and overwhelming when faced with dynamics of fear and abuse. Our clients share with us how they are affected in so many different ways ranging from barriers to safety, housing, employment and income, transportation, legal status, court cases and more.

This event always moves and inspires Team DHF because we witness that there truly is “Power in Community” and if even for an afternoon, the feelings of loneliness and helplessness are lessened, and are replaced with a sense of belonging, networking and newly formed friendships. It communicates that you are not alone, that hope is on the horizon and that with support, moving forward in life is very possible.
